The core of the organization work is to rescue children from extreme poverty, domestic slavery, forced child labor, and the horror of human trafficking in Nepal through the following activities.
We sponsor children to help them escape trafficking and poverty by providing support to attend school. The “poorest of the poor” do not have the means to send their children to school without assistance. Many of the children we sponsor are orphans. When parents are not available due to death or disappearance, we place these children into the homes of other family members in order to keep them safe.
Human Trafficking Awareness with Hygiene Education
CRM works in Nepal’s underserved remote villages, that would not otherwise have access to the resources we offer. People in remote villages typically are uneducated and illiterate. We equip children and their guardians through human trafficking awareness training. We give them leaflets about trafficking, and the children watch films about how to avoid situations that put them at risk for trafficking. They also learn basic hygiene and are introduced to the children in these programs.
Supporting Widows and Helping Whole Families
Many widows are helpless, elderly, ill, and unemployable with no social security or income. We train them to be self-sustaining. Our family sustainability programs give widows and poor families the tools needed to survive and succeed. Our Revolving Income Generating Opportunity Program (RIGO) teaches poor widows and families how to create more than they need and to sell their excess to become self-sufficient. The Journey to Self Sufficiency initiative gives families a goat, pig, or chickens to develop small herds and flocks as well as a vegetable cart to create a small roadside business. We also build modest homes for the desperately poor. Hundreds of families are now financially stable through these programs.
Disaster Response, Relief, and Community Rebuilding
Natural disasters are common in Nepal and CRM is ready to go wherever the need arises. After Nepal’s 2015 earthquake CRM sent emergency response teams and distributed emergency food supplies to damaged areas and helped hundreds of devastated and forgotten rural families. CRM is still rebuilding communities after the devastating earthquake.
COVID-19 Lockdown Crisis: Hunger Relief Program
Nepal faced a cruel dilemma with COVID-19 because their lockdown prevented many poor from working. This meant they couldn’t pay rent and were left homeless. Other laws forbid people from leaving their homes which often meant starvation. We provided one-month emergency hunger relief meal packages to 1,500 families which included 30 pounds of rice, 7 pounds of lentils, a bottle of cooking oil and a packet of salt.
Clean Water and Outhouse Project
In the United States, clean water and sanitation are everywhere and taken for granted. In Nepal, many areas do not have safe water or sanitation nearby. We are building pipelines to get clean water to villages. Poor rural families who once had to hike half an hour each way to get water now have clean water and sanitation close to home.
Agape Love
Our desire is to show the compassion and help them in their difficulties time. We provide emergency care for the sick, the poor, the broken and the oppressed. Through Agape Love, hundreds of families have received medical support when facing sickness or death.
